Simulcasting lets you broadcast your live event to multiple platforms at once. Stream to Ravnur while simultaneously reaching audiences on YouTube, Facebook, X (Twitter), and other RTMP-compatible platforms, such as Twitch, Periscope, etc., all from a single encoder.

Before you begin
To use simulcasting, you need:
MUX enabled in your Ravnur platform - contact Ravnur to enable MUX if you don't see MUX as a live source option.
-
AccessToAdminpermission - required to access simulcasting features described in this article.
Each platform provides credentials differently. You'll need to obtain:
- Stream URL (also called Server/Source URL).
- Stream key.
See platform-specific instructions below.
Get the stream URL and stream key
To simulcast to external platforms, you'll need RTMP credentials from each platform. The guidance below shows exactly where to find them.
Important: Keep your stream key private. It acts as a password that allows anyone who has it to stream to your channel.
YouTube
If you haven’t live-streamed on your YouTube channel before, YouTube will ask you to verify your account (you’ll need a phone number for this part). After verification, there’s typically a 24-hour waiting period before live streaming is enabled on your account.
1. Go to YouTube Studio.
2. Click Create in the top right, select Go Live.
3. Select a stream start time.
4. Select the option Streaming software for the stream type.
5. Copy your Server URL and Stream Key from the Stream settings tab.
YouTube guide: Manage live stream settings - YouTube Help.
1. From Facebook Home, click Live Video.
2. Click Go Live.
3. Under "Select a video source", choose Streaming Software.
4. In the Streaming Software Setup tab, find your Stream Key.
Use a persistent stream key for all your platform credentials, if available. Persistent keys can be reused across multiple events without updating your simulcast destination.
5. Click Advanced Settings to view the Server URL.
Facebook generates
rtmps://URLs by default, which Ravnur fully supports.
Facebook guide: Go live on Facebook using streaming software | Facebook Help Center.
Twitter/X
X live streaming requires a verified account and a Premium subscription.
1. Go to Premium tab > Media Studio > Producer page.
2. Click Create source and choose RTMP as the source type.
3. Copy your Source URL and Stream Key.
4. Click Create Broadcast.5. Fill in the broadcast details and select the RTMP source you created.
You can also copy your Source URL and Stream Key from Settings on this stage:
Twitter guide: Media Studio Producer.
Custom RTMP
For other platforms (Twitch, Periscope, or custom streaming servers), obtain:
RTMP(S) URL - the same server address where you'll send your stream.
Stream Key - an authentication credential for your account.
The location of these credentials varies by platform. Check the platform's documentation for specific instructions.

Set up Simulcasting
1. Create simulcast destinations
1. Go to Live Streaming > Simulcasting.
See no Simulcasting tab?
MUX must be enabled in your Ravnur platform to unlock simulcasting. Contact Ravnur support to enable MUX - see MUX Live Source.
2. Click Add destination.
3. Select your platform (YouTube, Facebook, X/Twitter, or Custom RTMP).
4. Add a title for this destination.
5. (Optional) Add a description to help identify it later from the Simulcasting section list.
6. Enter the Stream URL and Stream Key from your platform.
The Stream URL field includes validation hints for platform-specific requirements.
Click Create.
You can add up to six destinations in total for a single live event. Each destination becomes available when configuring channels and events.
2. Select or create your MUX live source
If you don't have a MUX source yet, follow the steps in MUX Live Source.
Simulcasting requires MUX as your live source because Ravnur uses MUX technology to pass your stream through to external platforms.
3. Configure your encoder
Set your encoder to the recommended settings from Setting up an On-Premise Encoder.
With simulcasting, Ravnur passes your raw stream directly to external platforms without processing. Each platform then handles its own transcoding and delivery. This means your encoder settings must work well for all platforms simultaneously - YouTube, Facebook, X, and any custom RTMP destinations you're using.
4. Create your channel with MUX source
1. Go to Live Streaming > Manage channels and click Create live channel.
2. Select a MUX source for a channel.
3. In the Simulcast destinations field, select the destinations to associate with this channel.
Tip: For existing channels, you can add simulcast destinations anytime from the channel details page by clicking Add simulcasting.
Tip: Simulcast destinations selected at the channel level act as templates for events. You can still modify destinations on individual events later.
5. Schedule your event and select destinations
2. In the event settings, select which simulcast destinations to use for this specific event.
For existing events, you can add and modify simulcast destinations from the event details page.
6. Go live
Simulcasting only begins when you go live. In Preview mode, your encoder feed is visible only in the Control Room - it does not stream to external platforms. Click Go Live to start simulcasting.
1. Go live from the Control Room in Ravnur.
2. Once live in Ravnur, check each external platform to verify your stream is broadcasting.
Some platforms automatically start broadcasting when they detect your RTMP stream, while others require manual activation. Refer to each platform's documentation for their specific requirements.
Considerations
Before setting up simulcasting, keep these important points in mind:
Simulcasting only works when MUX is selected as your live source. Channels and events using RMS or HTTP Live Stream URL sources cannot use simulcasting.
Simulcasting supports a maximum resolution of 1080p.
You can simulcast to a maximum of 6 external platforms per event. This includes destinations inherited from the channel plus any destinations added directly to the event.
Simulcast streams include video and audio only - captions, even if enabled, are not passed to external platforms. If you need captions on YouTube, Facebook, or X, enable each platform's native captioning feature.
Changes to simulcast destinations do not affect live events that are already streaming. Updated settings apply only to scheduled events and future events. To update a destination for a running live event: stop the stream → edit the destination → restart the stream.
Ravnur automatically records all streams. External platforms manage their own recording independently - configure recording settings on YouTube, Facebook, X, or other platforms if you want VOD (Video on Demand) available there after your stream ends.
You're ready to simulcast. You've set up your destinations, configured your channel with MUX, and activated broadcasts on each platform. Now you can reach audiences across Ravnur, YouTube, Facebook, X, and other platforms with a single stream.
