Considerations
MUX is a video infrastructure platform that simplifies the technical challenges of live streaming. It provides scalable streaming capabilities and handles complex technical aspects of video delivery. Ravnur integrates MUX functionality directly into the RMP platform, giving you access to MUX streaming capabilities in one unified system.
When using MUX Live Source, keep these considerations and limitations in mind:
- MUX supports AI-generated live closed captions.
- Currently, DVR is always enabled for MUX live sources. The option to disable DVR is in development.
- DVR playback is limited to 12 hours.
- MUX Live Source does not support the Passthrough encoding option, only Adaptive Bitrate (ABR) is available.
- ABR for MUX Live Source is available only in 1080p option; 720p is not supported.
Create MUX Live Source
To set up a MUX Live Source:
1. Navigate to Live Streaming > Configure sources.
2. Click Create Live Source and select MUX as the source type.
3. In the Ingest stream protocol field, select either RTMP or SRT.
4. Complete the remaining fields and select checkboxes according to your streaming requirements:
- Enable AI generated live captioning (English only)
- Reduced latency (12-20 seconds): creates a stream with approximately 12-20 seconds of latency between live capture and viewer playback, which is faster than standard streaming but maintains stability.
Ensure your encoder is configured appropriately for reduced latency, learn more.
Tip: Name your source to indicate it's a MUX stream for easy identification later.
5. Click Create Live Source.
Next Steps
After configuring your MUX Live Source, follow these standard steps:
1. Configure your encoder.
2. Assign MUX live source to your channel.
3. Schedule your live event with this MUX source.
As for the Post production settings available during scheduling:
- Generate captions for the VOD asset - Creates captions for the on-demand version of your stream.
If you selected "Enable AI generated live captioning" when creating the live source, those captions do not automatically transfer to the VOD. You must select this option to have captions for your VOD asset.
- Enable viewing of recorded event immediately - Makes the recording available for viewing as soon as the stream ends.
- Do not convert to VOD after stream completion - Prevents automatic conversion of the live stream to a video-on-demand asset.
4. Preview and go live from the Control Room.
With MUX Live streaming configured, you can now create live broadcasts with closed captions, reduced latency, and DVR for interactive events, webinars, and other streaming scenarios where viewer engagement is essential.
