The Privacy setting controls whether a scheduled or recorded Event is discoverable on your portal. Use it to run a test stream, or any stream you don't want to advertise as an official public Event, without making it visible to viewers browsing the portal.
Every channel has a Privacy selector set to either Public or Unlisted.
In this article:
Concepts
| Term | Description |
|---|---|
| Public | The scheduled Event appears in the Upcoming Events section on your portal's home page, and the recorded Event appears in the Recorded Events section. |
| Unlisted | The scheduled Event and its recording don't appear on the portal or in search, though the live event page remains accessible to anyone with the direct link. |
Public privacy
Public means the scheduled Event appears on the home page of your portal in the Upcoming Events section, and the recorded Event is visible in the Recorded Events section.
Unlisted privacy
Unlisted means the scheduled Event doesn't appear in the Upcoming Events list, and the recording doesn't appear in the Recorded Events list or in search.
The live event page for the channel remains accessible to anyone who has the link. It isn't password-protected - anyone with the link can view it. Learn more about channel link access. The stream is simply not visible to the public on that page.
Unlisted privacy is useful when testing encoder settings: you can go live without showing an Event name like "test of encoder settings" publicly.
Managing the privacy setting
Privacy is available on the live channel creation form and on the live channel page, as shown below.
