What is a Live Event?
A live event is a scheduled broadcast that allows you to stream content in real-time to your audience. You can create a live event in two ways:
1. Create a live event directly from the Schedule events page.
2. Use an event template for repeating events. It is covered in this guide.
Why do I need a Live Event?
The channel requires you to provide the broadcast time and, if using the RMS type of source, update the ingest setup. By creating a live event, you can advertise the start time to your viewers, ensuring they know when to tune in.
How to schedule the event?
Create a live event by scheduling it directly. Learn from this page how to prepare to go live and schedule your live event to and inform your viewers about the upcoming stream.
You cannot schedule concurrent live events for:
the same live channel
the same live source
Use separate channels and sources for concurrent events.
Other than that, there is no limit to the number of live events you can schedule.
Steps to Schedule a Live Event
-
Select Schedule events > Create live event.
2. Fill in the fields:
-
Quick create - use a template (optional): if you have a saved template, use this option to speed up the Live Event creation. You can also Save as Template current values if you plan to repeat this event.
-
Tell your viewers about your live event: provide a Title and Description.
-
What are you streaming and where will you publish it: specify a Channel and a Live Source. Learn about each field and option.
-
Schedule your live event:
-
Start date: the event day based on your local machine’s clock.
-
Start time: the event start time that you will advertise to your viewers. Your stream will display this time and date on the channel’s live event page.
-
Time zone: This will default to your local machine’s time zone. You can change it if necessary.
-
Duration: This is the expected duration of your live stream. It is used for scheduling and reserves the channel and live source for this amount of time beginning at the start time of your event.
-
Note that the event will continue even after the scheduled duration ends, and therefore you must stop the stream manually.
-
Uploads: you can add the Event thumbnail and Agenda so the viewers get more idea of the incoming event.
-
Automatically start streaming: this is an optional section to start the streaming server automatically at a preset time before the scheduled start of the live stream. This is useful when your encoder is already pushing the contribution feed to the ingest URL.
-
Restricted access: If you require viewers to enter an access code, you can enable the "Require an access code to view the stream" option. Learn more.
-
Once you've completed these steps and filled in all the fields, select Create live event to schedule your live stream.
You have successfully scheduled a live event.
