Player features
The Ravnur Player offers a number of features designed to control your media playback experience.
-
Basic options:
- Play\pause - clicking anywhere on the screen or hitting the space bar will also play or pause. On the left side, there's a volume scroller and a timecode.
-
Timeline - use the timeline to move forward or backward in the video. The player displays a snapshot for visual navigation:
- The Fullscreen expands the media to fill your screen. Press the Esc key to exit.
-
Settings options:
- Adjust the playback rate from 0.5 to 5x speed.
- Adaptive bitrate streaming technology optimizes video quality based on the user's connection speed. Alternatively, users can change the quality settings manually.
-
Playlist:
- The player will display the vertical side menu with the playlist media:
-
Add cue points:
- Divide the timeline panel into sections for easier navigation.
- Access the list using the cue points button
- Select the language for the cue points from the menu.
- To remove cue points from the Timeline, select None in the Languages field.
- Search across all captions using the search button
-
Add closed captions:
- Add captions to make your content accessible to a wider audience. As a result, the CC menu will appear in the player panel.
The Translate option appears in the Settings > Closed Captions once you have added at least one CC language. Configure the available translation languages in Admin Portal > Settings > Languages.
You have a separate settings section to configure the caption font, size, etc.
Search across all captions using the search button
-
Live
- Preview your stream using the Control Room player to check the viewer’s perspective.
- The Live appears to skip to a real-time view. When you're watching the most recent part of the stream, the Live turns red. If the user is not watching in real time, the button is grayed out:
Clicking on this button takes the user back to the real-time view. Learn more about starting a live stream.
Audio player
Upload audio files (learn what you can upload) and get to listen to them with the audio player.
You get the same basic features as for the video:
- Adjust the playback rate from 0.5 to 5x speed.
- Publish your audio to the Portals, embed it, or create an external page for the audio, just like for the video.
- The thumbnail for videos is usually generated automatically from the video feed, but since audio files don’t have a video line, you can manually upload a thumbnail instead. Add it through the Admin Portal or My Account to replace the default background.
- Create playlists for your audio through the Admin Portal or via My Account.
You cannot create captions or cue points for audio.
Player for RMS
The Ravnur Player is an RMS-compatible media player that supports adaptive bitrate streaming for both video and audio. It is used in RMP applications, and Ravnur recommends using it for the RMS API as well. The RavPlayer provides a number of options to customize its behavior and appearance. Explore the possibilities.
Troubleshooting and help
Known issue: My video has no sound or the audio doesn't work
Recommended steps for troubleshooting playback issues:
- Check another device: if the problem is not reproduced, check for problems with other media or browsers.
- Check other media: Check to see if the uploaded format is allowed.
- Clear your browser cache: Sometimes, cached data can cause playback issues. Clear your browser cache and cookies and try reloading the media.
- Update your browser: Make sure you have the latest version of your web browser.
- Check your internet connection: make sure that your connection is stable and has sufficient bandwidth. Otherwise, try a lower quality.
