The trim editor allows you to remove unwanted content from the beginning and end of your video while automatically maintaining the timing accuracy of your captions and cue points. This tool handles both video editing and caption synchronization in one step.
Getting started
Select Video editors in the Video page and switch to Trim video.
Remove slate footage and dead air at the beginning and end of your video before proceeding with other editing tasks.
The trim editor is an easy way to do that because the video is already in the cloud and ready to be edited.
How trimming affects captions and cue points
1. Existing captions and cue points
When you trim a video that already has captions or cue points:
- They will be trimmed along with the video.
- The timing is aligned - no corrections needed.
2. Reverting to the previous version
When you revert a trimmed video to an earlier version, you have two options:
Option 1: Keep current captions and cue points
- Use this for minor changes, and the captions still match the content (e.g., you only trimmed a few seconds from the beginning or end).
- Captions and cue points will be applied to the reverted version - no action is required.
Option 2: Delete captions and cue points
- Use this when your changes were major and the captions won't match anymore (e.g., you trimmed out a whole section of dialogue in the middle).
- You'll need to regenerate caption and cue point files.
3. Videos without captions
If your video doesn't have captions yet, generate or extract captions after you've completed the trim operation.
This way, captions are created with the correct timing from the start.
