Who can embed a media item
If embedding is enabled for a media item, anyone can add the embed code to any web page. However, to ensure that your media is only displayed on authorized websites, domain whitelisting is used.
Domain whitelist
Ravnur lets you whitelist specific domains or IP addresses where your embedded videos can play. Navigate to Settings > Domain whitelist > click Add domain or IP address.
Enter the domain name only, without https:// or a path, for example: www.example.com.
Wait for 10 minutes for the changes to become active.
If you remove a domain from the whitelist while a video from that domain is already playing, that video may continue playing for a few minutes before it stops. Any new video opened on that domain will not play.
If the page embeds a video from a domain that isn't whitelisted, the player will not load. Instead, viewers will receive a message indicating that the domain is not authorized to view the video:
Manage the Domain whitelist settings within the admin portal. Administrators can update the whitelist to include or exclude domains as needed.
- Whitelisting domains: Add the specific domains or IP addresses to the whitelist to permit video playback on those sites.
- Restricting access: The system will block any domain not on the whitelist from playing the video.
Allow captions and cue points in embedded videos
The embedded player loads captions, cue points, and chapters from your Ravnur embed domain, so this domain must be on the whitelist together with the sites where you embed videos. If the embed domain is missing, embedded videos play without captions, cue points, chapters, and caption search.
To add your embed domain to the whitelist:
- In the Admin portal, open any media item and go to the Embed tab.
- In the
srcaddress, copy the domain that ends in.embed.ravnur.net, for example:yourcompany.embed.ravnur.net. - Go to Settings > Domain whitelist, click Add domain or IP address, and paste the domain.
If the whitelist contains an asterisk (*), your embed domain is already allowed.
Universal access
If you prefer to allow playback of your videos on any domain, you can add an asterisk (*) to the whitelist. This action will enable video playback across all domains without restriction.
