Management actions of audio versions
Before you begin
- Upload a video or audio to access the version features.
- You must have ContentAdmin role permissions to access the Video and Audio tabs.
Working with video versions
Managing video versions helps maintain content without losing previous work. You can update videos with corrected information, replace poor quality footage with better versions, or create trimmed clips for different uses - all while preserving the original.
Versions tab
1. Navigate to the Video section and select a video.
2. Locate the Versions tab and click it.
Versions List
Each version in the list represents either:
- The original uploaded video.
- Video qualities (e.g., 720p, 1080p).
- The original audio version extracted from the video.
You may also see additional versions that reflect your previous actions:
- Newly uploaded versions that replaced the original.
- Trimmed versions created via the Trim editor.
Versions management actions
Tip: If the buttons appear inactive, try refreshing the page.
From the Versions tab, you can:
-
Download a version: click Download to save it to your local device.
-
Upload a new version: click Upload new version to replace the current active version.
This is useful when replacing outdated content, enhancing video quality, or updating product demonstrations. Example: replace a recorded lecture with improved audio and visuals; or update a recorded webinar to correct factual errors.
When you upload a new version, all existing links and embeds will automatically display the updated content accessible through the same URL.
-
The currently active version is marked with [active].
What happens when restoring a version:
- A transcoding process is started.
- All video and audio qualities are replaced.
- Previews and thumbnails are regenerated.
- The revious active version will have no closed captions and cue points.
Working with audio versions
Working with audio versions allows you to access and download the sound component of your videos separately. This is useful when you need just the audio for podcasts, transcription services, or creating alternative audio tracks.
Versions for audio functions are similar to video versions, with a simplified experience.
Generated audio versions
The Audio Versions tab shows the following:
1. The original audio.
2. An MP4 version with audio quality at 192kb/s.
Unlike video versions, audio versions do not include multiple quality versions.
Management actions of audio versions
The audio Versions tab offers limited management options:
- Download: Save any audio version to your local device
- Retranscode: Available for troubleshooting audio playback issues
The following options are not available for audio versions:
- Upload new version
- Restore this version
Therefore, you cannot switch between different audio versions as the primary content.
Transcoding issues
Retranscoding media
Click Retranscode to reprocess media. This is useful if:
- Playback fails
- Previews or thumbnails are missing
The system will first place your request in a queue and shortly, proceed with processing. For more details on the transcoding process, refer to the Transcoding section in the Admin Portal.
Transcoding cancel
If you need to stop or troubleshoot the transcoding process, click Cancel:
After canceling, choose to:
- Delete the transcoding attempt
- Retranscode again
Tip: If a retry fails, wait a moment and try again - subsequent attempts often succeed.
This is how you navigate the Versions tab, work with different versions of your content, handle audio versions, and address transcoding issues when they arise.
